App-based vending works well when the user base is settled (your own employees) but becomes a friction point for transient users (visitors, contractors, agency staff). QR code vending solves this. The user scans a code on the machine, browses products in their mobile browser, pays with a card or mobile wallet, and collects. No app install, no account creation, no friction.

The format is particularly strong in visitor-heavy sites. Hospital reception areas, hotel public spaces, conference venues, large office receptions. In all these settings, asking visitors to install an app is a non-starter, but a QR scan is universally understood and works on any smartphone with a camera.

For mixed user bases (employees plus visitors), QR sits alongside an employee app, with both routes available on the same machine. Employees use the app for the loyalty and pre-order benefits; visitors use the QR for the no-friction one-off purchase. The transaction layer is the same on both routes; only the identification and the saved-state differ.
